The Arab conquest of Egypt between 639 and 642 CE successfully ended centuries of Roman and Byzantine rule, causing the political framework of Byzantine Egypt to fall. The invasion led by Amr ibn al-As transferred power from Constantinople to the Rashidun Caliphate.
