Selective memory can refer to an individual's tendency to only remember certain information while forgetting the rest.

That's a valuable perspective. It ties into the idea of selective attention—focusing on what truly matters and letting go of distractions or thoughts that don't serve your well-being. Knowing what to ignore can be just as important as knowing what to pay attention to.
